new year, new blog post!

Wow, I still cannot believe it's already 2014. That means I'm now in my fourth year of my photography business, which couldn't have been possible without your continuous love and support; so thank you, thank you, thank you. (Sending each of you a big squeeze!)

Here's my photo session with the Smiley family, one of the sweetest clients I have. I've worked them since baby Henry was a tiny tinkerdoodle, and I seriously can't get enough of him. He is a bundle of joy!!! I'm definitely looking forward to photographing more milestones with this family!

If you're interested in booking a photo session, or if you have any questions, please email AVAVANPHOTOS@GMAIL.COM.

For $140, below is what the package entails:
  • Complete set of digital images from session.
  • 15 retouched digital images.
  • 2 outfit choices.
  • Session done outdoors at a location of your choice or indoor at your home.

2013 seattle pridefest parade

Love, shouldn't be limited to only heterosexual couples, but between two people who love each other very much.

Supreme Court recently ruled DOMA unconstitutional, which now grants same-sex couples, who are legally married, equal rights to the same benefits like married heterosexual couples.
First lesbian couple to get a marriage license in Washington State.
Ed Murray with his longtime partner, Michael Shiosaki.
This gay couple got married during the parade. It was so cool!

cousins | mini sessions

On the day of this session, I have to be honest, I was extremely worried about the crazy weather that day, and I wasn't sure how I was gonna pull it off. It was one of the coldest day during winter - gusty winds - pouring down rain - not to mention I'd photograph 4 teeny munchkins.

But in the end, surprisingly, everything worked out perfectly, all thanks to my many hours of worshiping Yo Gabba Gabba with my cousin, Elle.

"Get your sillies out!!!" as they would say on the show. And that's exactly what we did.The kids loved it. So did I. After bouncing around for a good whole minute, all warmed up, it started to feel a lot like summer again.

Looking back at the pics, I can't even tell it was 40 degrees. That just tells you my little models were that good!!!

aaja 2013 lunar new year banquet | special events

For the last 3 years, I've had the honor to shoot AAJA Seattle's Lunar New Year Banquet and Silent Auction. AAJA is professional organization that provides scholarships for students and professional development for journalists. I come back every year because I love what they do for the journalism community. Plus, I always have a good time. Great food, karaoke - catch up with friends and mentors - and best part is all the proceeds from the event goes to a good cause. Did I mention our photo booth is usually pretty rad? :)

Looking forward to the next banquet. It's going to be my year - the year of a horse!

P.S. If you're interested in pursuing journalism as a career, sign up to become a member at AAJA. I might be a little biased, but AAJA is the best journalism organization out there. Not only did I make long-lasting friendships with many notable journalists in the community, I've also had several exciting jobs in print and TV - all thanks to AAJA! Seriously, do it.

The Seattle Times crew + Executive Editor David Boardman. No big deal.

MSNBC News Anchor Richard Lui and my rockstar mentor Athima, who's also a gifted writer at Microsoft.
Me and the gorgeous Samantha Pak. She's an amazing reporter at the Redmond Reporter.
Love this pic! Seattle Times reporter Sanjay Bhatt and his gorgeous wife.

Chi Mai and her hubby, Jerome. Mai is currently AAJA Seattle president and a reporter for the Yakima Herald Republic.

One of my mentors and KINGTV News Anchor Lori Matsukawa with her hubby. One good looking couple!

Meet the AAJA Seattle board. They're pretty cool.

The gorgeous Tracey Compton from the Renton Reporter.

Love Chi Mai and Jerome to pieces.

It was THAT fun.
